Hi Kate - just a quick question... There are thousands of children in each state that are waiting to be adopted. Children adopted from the state have little to no fees for adoption and the family is actually given stipends to help raise the child. They also get free college tuition to state schools! I am curious why if you say you and your husband have no money would you want to adopt internationally ?

That's a great question! And honestly it boils down to because we want to be obedient to what the Lord has called us to do. Often times, we try to run from the Lord's call or do things our own way because they make more sense to us or would be easier for us. However, God is not in the business of making our lives easier for us. He is in the business of bringing Himself Glory.

We are actually adopting domestically, not internationally this time around. My uncle is an adoption lawyer so we were well aware of adopting through the state and all the benefits you talked about. My husband and I felt lead by the Lord to adopt domestically through Bethany Christian Service because we wanted to keep C the oldest child and keep birth order, so adopting an infant was made clear. Mississippi has only placed 1-2 infants in the last 7 years. That and many other deciding factors helped narrow down our path to Bethany Christian Services. And even though it didn't make sense to pay more when we could pay less (and trust me, all those incentives were very tempting) we knew very clearly that the Lord was leading us to Bethany. So, we decided to trust and follow the Lord's call and not worry about the cost. His will and ways often don't make sense, but we choose to be obedient always. And we do intend to adopt internationally one day as well because we feel that's what He has called us to do, too. I'm thankful I serve a God who challenges me so that in the end, He receives more glory.
